Wow Factor
Taking
steps in picking our interview and who we wish to obtain answers from is coming
along nicely, we are leaning more towards the dentist rather than the author of
the glass castle. We are sure an
interview with a working dentist will give us many factual and proven outcomes
of drinking soda and specifically Mountain Dew.
We know that soda is not only bad for the immune system due to its high
sugar content, and its carbonation leads to stomach problems later in life, but
the effects and toll it has on teeth is tremendous. We hope see firsthand how bad soda damage to
teeth can actually be. To warn people of
the facts, it is always good to have a wow or shock factor to catch people’s
attention and make them think twice before picking up a can of that bubbly
green goodness we know as Mountain Dew

interview
In continuation of the last post, we would like to interview
someone of significance, not just a random person off the street, but someone
with knowledge about our specific topic and or area of expertise. Our goal is to interview the author of the
glass castle if possible, which is shooting high, but of course we have a backup
plan, which is to interview a dentist. Hopefully
we can contact a dentist in that area, who has seen the affects first hand but
any dentist would be fine, considering they should know the adverse affects of
drinking soda, especially mountain dew which has the most sugar of them
all. Hopefully he can give us stories we
can use to warn people of what can happen, and maybe possibly ideas on how he
believes we should get the word out.
Make it Aware
Now they our topic is set in stone and we have dived pretty deep into the research aspect of our topic, which is of course The Mountain Dew Addiction in central Appalachian and the neighboring areas. This seems to be a problem which is centered around, not only Mountain Dew but poor dental care as well. In combination with the two, the affects seen are life altering as the abusers of Mountain Dew have permanent and irreversible tooth decay and tooth loss. Now just like any other kind of addiction, it is the user’s choice, and in this case the product they are addicted to is not illegal so it cannot be banned, but what we can do is let the people know what could and will happen if they continue to consume large amounts of mountain dew.

Tooth Decay
Continuation from before, I found a article which describes
in detail how mother with infants are filling bottles with Mountain Dew, and
when doctors have examined the children they have a unfathomable amount of
cavities. I remember if I had one cavity
it was a travesty, a two-year old was examined and was found to have eleven
cavities. This does not just go away at
older ages, an 11-year old boy when asked about brushing said he did not brush
his teeth for over two years because they hurt so bad. The more I dive into the topic the worse it
seems to get.
Applacian Mountains, The unsuspected addiction
Shane, Josh, and I have recently stumbled upon a quite horrific addiction to something that most people would not think is possible to become addicted to. As well as something that is deemed a harmless drink, could cause such catastrophic disaster on the people of the Appalachian Mountains. As I read more and more, unraveling detail after detail, what was and still is going on must be stopped. Things such as putting mountain dew in baby bottles, by the time the children are eight all their teeth are rotted and almost completely gone. It is something right in our own country that must be addressed.
